equine problems
Equine Hive..my stallion has had them for four weeks..has anyone had that problem for that long?
My 15 year old stallion broke out mysteriously in hives four weeks ago. Have gone through all the changes in feeds, environments, bedding, etc and still he has them. They are worse in the morning and then usually gone completely by the evening. TriHist doesn’t seem to do much if I can get him to eat it. Only thing that works for a few days is a steriod. I’ve fly sprayed the heck out of him, blanketed and hooded him against bugs and they still come back. Sometimes only on his nect and face, then bam, the next morning all over. Other than moving him completely from our property which he’s lived for 11 years, I’m out of ways to find a solution. Vet says, it could be anything and to just treat the symptoms…that’s not getting rid of them. Anyone experience them for four weeks straight?? Most stories sound like they go away in no more than two weeks. Help!
You say they are worse in the morning and almost completely gone by evening. Is the horse kept in a stall at night, and kept outside during the day? It seems that whatever is causing the hives is happening overnight, or that something about what he is doing overnight brings them back on. For example, if he were more stressed at night for some reason, it might be bringing them on. Even changes in the weather can bring them on. Anyway, I’m posting a veterinary article on hives….I hope it helps you figure it out…………………
